This is an excellent post! As a mother and owner of a "family business", I totally get it!

My son is 11 yrs. old now and really doesn't care one way or the other about working in our printing business. He does it when he wants to buy a new video game and needs the money.

However, subconsciously - my expectations are probably set on him taking the business over (he is an only child), and keeping it alive and well until he passes it on to his heir. Idealistic, huh?

Your post makes me think about how I want to treat this subject going forward. I want him to be successful at whatever he enjoys in life. This may mean - NOT - our printing business.

Thanks!
