I was very afraid that I would have to mooch off of the parental units upon graduation. Job hunting was really slow, but proved successful after diligently applying and networking.

I think my internships prepared me for the world of work. These internships were built into the program and was so grateful for the experience!!

I'm the mom of an almost college graduate -- doing some research for a friend, as a matter of fact. Looking back many years, I'd say my biggest fear was just the fear of the unknown, leaving the warm cocoon of my friends, my sorority, the familiar and taking the work-day plunge. It was like jumping off a cliff in many ways. My friend's daughter is working hard at getting a new job -- i'm going to send on this link for her to get some useful info. And in addition to the book above (Miss emily might like that!) I also want to recommend another great book on looking for a job, "The Job Coach for Young Professionals: The workbook you need to land the right job, by Susan Kennedy and Karen Baker. It's an interactive guide to identifying and then getting, the right job. I'm giving it as a graduation present!

And good look to all the new grads out there!

My biggest fear is not being happy with my job. I majored in accounting, and I'm not sure yet if it's exactly what I want because I've had little hands-on experience.

I'm really excited to get out on my own. It's a little nerve-wracking, but I feel like college gave me a taste of independence and I'm ready to take it on completely.

As for college prepping me for the "real world," I'm going to say no. I learned more in high school about how to work in the "real world" than in college, with classes like home economics and personal finance. But those are high school level and therefore only took me so far. I feel like I'm going to be calling my mom up every other day asking her how to do this or that.

What are your biggest post-graduation fears? That I won't be able to find a job that is a step up to reflect my MPA/MSW.
What are you most excited about? Being done with school! Not bleeding out the nose every semester when I buy books!
Do you feel that college prepared you for “the real world”? Not really. No personal finance education, no networking lessons, no conflict mediation lessons.
