Here’s something I’ve learned this past week in regards to money: When I’m not allowed to spend it, I’m a lot more creative.
For example, a really good friend was broken up with this week. Normally, I would have taken her out for drinks or made a “Breakup Basket” with stuff to keep her busy or make her feel better–wine, nail polish, my favorite breakup book, “It’s Called a Breakup Because it’s Broken,” etc… Instead, I went over there and we watched dumb, non-romantic comedies, made headbands with materials I already had at my house, and made mixed drinks with vodka I already had in my liquor cabinet. She felt a lot better and I didn’t spend any money…although, I did end up buying the book for her the next day anyway.
I guess if I’ve learned anything, at least in the first week, it’s that there are always alternatives to spending money if you just put a little thought into it.
But then………yesterday I bought a bra and underwear set at H&M, that I didn’t need, just because it was only $15, and I couldn’t pass up that DEAL!!
That’s how I know I’m not quite there yet.

I can totally relate to this!! Last Halloween I was abroad and seriously on a budget, I made an Indian costume out of a 4 euro huge men’s tshirt. It doesn’t sound like much but it was one of my favorite/cutest costumes. Since I didn’t have the money to spend, it forced me to take a more creative approach than just buying the typical store costumes.
On the other hand last night 6pm.com had an amazing shoe sale and instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to spend under 10 bucks for a pair of shoes, I bought 7 pairs…whoops.
I guess I’m not quite there yet either, but sometimes it’s fun to treat yourself!
I also cheated already!
It’s awfully rainy here and I’m sick of my pants getting wet and being cold at work so I bought new rain boots, but they were only $25 at Target…not too bad.
$25 rain boots! That would have been hard for me to pass up too
here’s a great tutorial on how to recover worn out flats the next time you’re jonesing for a new pair

the only things you need are:
old shoes
old shirts
mod podge (a relatively cheap all-purpose glue you will use again if you get hooked on this type of project)
have fun!!! I am recovering two pairs, one with leopard print fabric from a hideous shirt I will never wear again (but will make the cutest shoes!) and the other pair with a purple bandanna that has a really neat pattern
