This is such an important topic! There are so many good candidates for jobs that are out of college, but who unfortunately have no concept of the stage of the job market that is designated as "entry level", which no matter what their collegiate experience, they need to complete before leading to their "successful working ventures". Plus some of the most important education we receive is right after college by figuring out apartment rent, bills, working more than one job, and setting career goals. You can't get that by going straight from college to a high-paying power job - they may be impatient to be successful, but I think it's so important for them to remember that success is not measured by dollar signs but by experience. Fantastic post!!!

I love this post. It's so true. I was just talking to a friend whose younger brother expects to be making $80,000 right out of college. Yeah right! I think our generation needs a lesson in managing expectations.

Glad to have met you on Halloween! This is a really great blog. Please let Jessica or I know if you need any help with it. I totally thought I was going to have the sex and the city life after college as well. Things don't always turn out the way we expect them to.

I definitely agree with so much of what you are saying here. As a senior in college, myself and many of my friends have begun to talk life after graduation. While its hard to visualize, I'm trying to be as realistic as possible- keeping my expectations at a minimum because I know things don't happen over night.

I think many college students are waiting for some big pay off upon graduation, which typically doesn't exist. Also, it seems so many are so ashamed of moving back home that they'd rather stay living in their dead beat college town working as a bar tender or something, rather than following their career goals to greener pastures.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the short term we lose sight of our long term goals. Its important to keep striving toward your end goal, and don't get deterred from your vision by some hot new shows, or a vacation you absolutely HAVE to go on.
