Next Wednesday (1/13/2010) I’ll be on a call with celebrity trainer Bob Harper from “The Biggest Loser!”
Bob Harper and Extra Gum have teamed up to create the “3pm Snackdown Challenge.”
For those of you who work in Corporate America, you’re probably familiar with the typical 3pm slump: sugar cravings, lethargy and perhaps even a little boredom-snacking to get you through to the end of the day.
I love the tag line for the 3pm Snackdown, “pick up a pack, put down that snack!” According to the snackdown site, “experts say that even small decreases in calories can have a big impact in the long term. Chewing Extra® gum, at only 5 calories per piece, can be a useful behavior modification tool to help manage calorie intake.” Sounds good to me!
The site has a cool little calculator which shows common fatty snacks that some of us reach for while at the office. I picked my personal favorite- a chocolate chip cookie- and learned that a cooke is about 190 calories. If I ate one per work day for a year, that is 9,620 calories. This habit would add up to an extra 2.8lbs.
So, now what I need from YOU!
Wrigley has offered mscareergirl.com readers tons of free Extra gum just for asking Bob Harper your questions about fitness and weight loss. Please put your questions for Bob in the comments section below. I will report back with his answers to your questions after the call.
I will randomly select winners in the follow up post after our call!

When beginning to exercise how many calories should the average individual take in on a daily basis?
I love this. Can you ask him the best exercises to get arms like Jenifer Annison?
I remember reading somewhere that chewing gum can actually make you feel hungrier. Is that true? …Although I do NOT want to upset Extra, because I love freebies, so let’s instead ask:
What is your number one motivation to stay in shape?
Thanks, Nicole!
Hi Bob,
If I could only buy 3 pieces of exercise equipment for my home, which 3 would you recommend and why?
-Kieley
I am 34, stay at home mom, and have rhumatoid arthritis. On your show running and high impact exercises are a big part of the weight loss. I can only do low impact exercises. How can I lost weight when I do not have hours to walk on the treadmill each day? What do you suggest?
I beat my mid-afternoon slump with a sublingual liquid B complex it’s AMAZING!!
Bob,
After having a hysterectomy I am packing on the pounds, how do I beat this?
Hi, I am a 71 year old grandma. I watch and enjoy your show every week, and you have inspired me to do something besides sit on the couch and watch TV.
I bought a 3 wheeled bike about a month ago. I am now up to 6 1/2 miles at one time, and I have never enjoyed anything so much as I do riding. I have lost weight, with cutting down on everything I eat, and still have 50 pounds to go. my question to you is, is riding my “trike”, as good of exercise as a regular bike ?
thanking you in advance, Carol
PS…. you sholud have a show for just old, fat folks like me. We can all use it.
