“A Head” For Details…

They say a change does us good, and we do have issues with parts our own body and face that we would love to change. But the fact is for a lot of us it’s not the big changes we need to make. We can make a lot of simple changes for big effects in our face. As we age, there are lots of little changes that take place on our face. The tips of our noses droop because of the weakening of the connective tissue supporting the nasal cartilage. Our foreheads expand as our hairline retreats, and even our ears get a bit longer as the cartilage grows! We can all do with a change, especially when it comes to addressing little details that add up. But for a lot of us there are little things we can do that will make a long-lasting impact.

The Hair

Believe it or not, we can find ways to make your hair look young. As we age our hair will grow, thinner, grayer, and dryer. Because of our scalp producing fewer natural oils, our hair struggles to make moisture. So what can we do? The first thing you need to address is your diet, believe it or not, as what you will eat or not may have a big impact on your hair as you age. Protein is essential for healthy hair as well as vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin C, as well as nutrients like zinc. If you’ve addressed your diet, it’s time to look at your hair parting and styling. The most obvious spot we can see our hair thinning is in our parting, so to camouflage this, try a zigzag part rather than a straight one, as this will create a lot of volume. Are you guilty of over styling your hair? As we age, we feel the tendency to overcompensate by adding more products to our hair, which will strip it of the natural oils, therefore contributing to dryness. So if you can cut back on over washing of your hair, this will be a big help. And in fact, if you are looking for a way to wash your hair without stripping it of the natural oils it’s recommended that cold water or having a cold shower is one way to maintain the moisture without removing the oils. You may want to add a hair product that contains either panthenol, niacinamide, or caffeine, as these are shown to thicken individual hair strands and therefore add volume. You may also want to try a supplement if you are not getting enough nutrients from your diet. A vitamin known as biotin has been shown to help prevent hair thinning, which you can take in supplement form or eat biotin rich foods such as eggs, raspberries, cheese, and peanut butter, just don’t put them in your hair!

The Forehead

If you are someone who raises your eyebrows constantly or are just continually bemused by things you may find that your forehead has a lot of lines to show for it. A lot of Hollywood stars like Gwyneth Paltrow have opted for a specific laser treatment known as Thermage, but there are ways you can remove wrinkles from your forehead with a spoon! That’s right, a spoon! Massage treatments created by cosmetologist Rene Koch has been shown to give some fantastic results, and all you need is a couple of stainless teaspoons with a cup of cold water, ice cubes, and a bowl of oil (either essential oil, olive oil, or linseed oil). The idea behind the process is to use the spoons to reduce the swelling on your face, and then you massage your face with a specific pattern which you can find at this link. However, if you don’t find rubbing spoons on your face a productive method to reduce lines on your forehead, you could go for a few simpler options. There are many line plumping creams you could use which contain peptides or retinol and retinoids, which stimulate collagen to fill in the creases on your forehead. You could choose a light reflecting primer to camouflage the lines which also keeps your makeup from etching itself into your furrowed brows. Or if you can’t afford any products right now, you may want to be stealthy and place bangs over your forehead, but make sure that it’s in combination with a side parting above one of your pupils, as a center parting will draw attention to your forehead.

The Eyes

The eyes have it, as they say. And they are the windows to your soul, so if you are trying to find a few ways to make your eyes look younger, surprisingly, the best place to start is your diet. If you have a diet high in sodium, it has an impact on your eye bags as they are made more visible. Also, there is always the option of eyelid surgery if you suffer from drooping eyelids which can age you considerably. There is one type of eye surgery, known as blepharoplasty, was pioneered by cosmetic surgeon John P. Fezza M.D. and was then continued by Dr. Ruth Yeilding who developed a unique eyelid surgery technique. Dr. Yeilding’s advanced eyelid surgery technique uses a laser for clean and precise incisions that result in favorable healing and minimal scars which is peace of mind for anyone considering going down this avenue. Laser surgeries can have unpleasant side effects, but with ever improving technology combined with affordable financial plans, it is proving to be a go to option for a lot of people. Other options to look after your eyes is to apply eye cream properly, by using a pea-sized amount and starting from the inner corner of the eye, gradually working out towards the crow’s feet. Use any remaining product on your brow bone where your sunglasses would rest. And if you don’t wear sunglasses, it’s time to start because it will stop you squinting, which will increase the amount of lines around the eye area.

The Nose

A lot of us can feel very self-conscious about our nose. We may feel it’s too big but there are little methods to reduce the size of your nose without going for surgery, and one of them is doing specific exercises that will help to change the shape of your nose. The idea behind a lot of exercises for reducing the shape of your nose is to build the muscle cartilage. And much like doing workouts for your body, there are ones you can do for your nose, and there are plenty you can find online. But one of the easier ones to do is to massage each area of your nose. If you do this for about five minutes a day on each area of your nose, on the tip, the sides, and the bridge, in a circular motion, you will see the difference after some time. But you do need to be patient!

The Ears

It’s not something we would tend to think about on a daily basis, but there are rejuvenation techniques to lift your ears which are done in a similar way to repairing tears after an accident. There are methods to have your ears pinned back, but if money is an issue then you would need to go for the old-fashioned methods of disguising or drawing attention away from your ears. Unfortunately, there is no method for self-massaging the years without it losing its elasticity. The best approaches to disguise is to hang your hair over your ears, or if you feel like you really need to disguise your ears you could use double-sided tape but, of course, this can come undone!

The Lips

The enemy of younger looking lips is dryness. You need to add moisture to your lips wherever you can, but if you have extreme dryness, you may wish to consult a dermatologist. If you are trying to erase the vertical wrinkles around your mouth, the one way to slow down this etching is by adding a collagen booster to your mouth on a daily basis or apply sunscreen regularly. You could invest in a product that contains hyaluronic acid that will plump up the fine lines and when it comes to giving that plump full look on your lips, you can find ways to cheat this. One trick is to line the outer edges of your mouth with a concealer that has the same shade as your foundation. If you blend it into the fine lines around your lips and then apply your lipstick with some shimmery gloss, that is one shade lighter, in the middle of your top and bottom lips, this subtle light reflection makes your lips appear fuller than they actually are.

So there you have it, from top to bottom, these are some ways to add a bit more youth to your face. It’s important to not feel tempted to do all of this at once but if you can change one bit at a time then gradually you will find that you have a much more youthful looking face.
