When it comes to your work, you’re probably an expert at a range of different things. You might flair in sales, excess at stats or be the best at presentations, but there might be other areas of your working environment that you might want to make sure you’re covered in. If something were to happen, would you know how to act? Emergencies do happen, regardless of how careful you are. So, it’s important to know how to act. Someone Gets Burned

Even if you work in an office, there is always a risk of one of your employees or a colleague burning themselves. If you have a kitchen at work, and regularly make hot drinks, there’s always a risk of someone getting burned by the kettle or coffee maker. If that were to happen, would you know what to do? Treating burns can be quite easy or immensely difficult, depending on the severity of the burn. It’s important that you know how to assess the severity of a burn, remove clothing, cool the burn, and know when to call 911.

 

A Minor Injury Takes Place

Sometimes, minor injuries can happen. Someone could scratch themselves or bang their head and you will need to make sure you know how to care for them. When accidents happen in the workplace, they need to be noted of, just in case something comes of it in the future. So, it’s important that you have an accident book, or know where one is in the office, in order to make notes. It might also help to know where the first aid kit is in case you need to use it.

 

Unusual Activity

It might not be that common, but it is still possible for mental illness to affect someone at work. If a colleague or employee is dealing with depression, you’re going to know how to spot it and how to help them if they need it. It can help to know what signs of mental health illnesses you need to be looking after. Then, you can work out what you need to do and how you should act. It might also be an idea to notify a senior member of staff if you’re not the boss.

 

Someone Passes Out

Something that’s a little more common for a number of different reasons is that someone could pass out. Maybe they’re starting to get ill, they’re overheating, not eating enough or stressed, regardless of the reason for them losing consciousness, you’re going to know how to step up and deal with it. The REST procedure can help and so can any trained first aider.

 

When To Call For Help

With so many different illnesses and accidents that can take place at work, it’s handy to know when you might need further assistance. There can be occasions where it’s just not possible for you to help alone. You might need to call in an ambulance or even get Air Medical Evacuation if it’s serious or the emergency services can’t get to you in time.
