How to Fall In Love With Your Home Again

When you first bought your home, it was probably love at first sight.  You may have bought with your heart rather than your head, and now those little problems are beginning to annoy you.  Whether it’s lack of space or the lack of curb appeal that’s bothering you, now’s the time to fix the faults and fall in love with your home again.

Get that dream extension

If it’s a lack of space that’s causing a problem, it may seem a bit daunting to undertake.  Concentrate on the end result and the difference it will make to your day-to-day life.  This will make it feel easier to manage. 

Extensions don’t have to be elaborate either.  It could be as simple as a single-story extension at the back of your property, giving you enough space for that kitchen/diner you’ve always coveted.

When you’re getting work done to your home, make sure you get at least three quotes from different companies, and make sure you hire reputable local builders.  Why?  To make sure you’re paying the right price and getting a good job done.  If you hire locally it will be easier to get the tradesmen back to fix any niggles.  Don’t simply look at online reviews of building companies, ask around. 

Fix up the front

Improving the kerb appeal at the front of your house can really help the way you feel about your home.  It’s easy to look on Instagram and see other pretty exteriors, and only see the faults in your own.

What do you dislike about your house when you return home?  Make a list.  Even if it’s a long list, don’t be disheartened.  Just start with the easiest fixes first.  Easy updates such as changing or painting the front door, planting up shrubs or roses, and removing rubbish and weeds can be done in no time and will make a big difference.

Other jobs may take more time and money, such as installing new windows or painting the exterior, but remember, you don’t need to do these all at once.  Just scheduling the jobs on your list to be done in a month or six months will make you feel more on top of the problems.

Don’t forget other details such as clearing the gutters, cleaning the windows, and fixing any broken fencing or gates.  It all adds up.
