This is one of the questions that a lot of modern day brides-to-be seem to be asking more these days. Many of us women have an idea of what kind of ring we want slid on our finger. While we, of course, would appreciate anything given by our significant others, sometimes men would find it easier to give the woman a choice. It saves a man the trouble of guessing what ring his woman would like, and so many would resort to asking if you can pick your own. Here are some reasons why picking out your own engagement ring is a great idea.

This is a very wrong notion. Men are not psychics and are often less in tune with fashion than women are. If he asks you to go shopping with him for the ring of your dreams, don’t take this as him being insensitive or lazy – in fact, he is being very considerate of your feelings, and is probably pushing his pride out of the way to make sure that he nails this very big life-changing purchase.

Picking out your own engagement ring can help make sure that your style and personality is reflected accurately by your engagement ring. A sporty girl may not necesarily like a princess cut, or a modern girl may not necessarily like a vintage cocktail ring! You get to pick what is best for you.

Thinking Long Term

There are many diamond bridal sets available that allows you to pick both the engagement ring and the wedding ring. This would help make the two accessories that celebrate your married life truly complement one another. Picking a set also helps put into perspective your budget not just for the big rock but for the beautiful band because buying them as a set can be much more affordable than buying them separately.

Now, if you are a bit more old-fashioned and want him to pick out the ring himself, here’s a suggestion. Meet him halfway. Let him know what styles you like or point him to the direction of a few looks that you feel are suited to you. This way you still get the element of surprise while relieving him of the worry that he got you a completely wrong ring.
