The Jetsetter’s Bible: How to Survive a Long Haul Flight

Whether you’re a jetsetting business woman who works with people from all around the globe, or just a career girl who loves to treat herself to amazing vacations (we all need a break, right?), there’s nothing more tedious than a long haul flight, especially if you’ve come unprepared. Here are some top tips to help you survive your next long distance travel.

  1. Bring Your Own In-Flight Entertainment

You can’t always rely on the in-flight films to keep you entertained, especially when your favorite films never seem to make the airline’s shortlist. But bring your Kindle or a good book and time will fly by before you know. Other things you could bring with you include a tablet; just make sure you pre-download the films you want to watch as you won’t be able to stream whilst you’re in the air.

  1. Don’t Forget to Bring Your Beauty Essentials

It may seem simple but forgetting to pack your lip balm or your liquid gel hand wash in your carry-on luggage could make all the difference between a comfortable flight and an uncomfortable flight. A girl’s must-have carry-on essentials (see more here about what to pack) are the key to a happy flight. So make sure you write a list and check your liquid allowances; if in doubt, shop for travel-sized toiletries at the airport.

  1. Make Time for Work

Not particularly glamorous – but if you’re a traveling business woman, long distance travel can give you plenty of time to catch up on work. And believe it or not, feelings of unbearable boredom will slowly disperse. Even though you can’t connect to the internet and send emails in the air, you can draft all your correspondence and simply click ‘send’ once you’re back on land. The sense of achievement will certainly make time go faster and give you more time to relax when you reach your destination.

  1. Remember Your Creature Comforts

Unless you have upgraded to first class, long distance flying can be very uncomfortable. If you’re feeling achy, make sure you get up and walk about to loosen up your limbs and joints. To maximize your in-flight comfort, be sure to pack a comfy head-pillow, some noise-cancelling earphones or earplugs, an eye mask and some cozy flight socks to keep your toes warm. If you’re really worried about the long distance discomforts, you could even pack an inflatable foot rest or a memory foam seat cushion to relieve the pains in your back, thighs and buttocks.
