Surprisingly, packing for warm weather can be more challenging than packing for the cold. So, if you’re planning your vacation to the tropical paradise it’s extremely important to pack light and smart. Ms. Career Girl has made a list of 10 indispensable items to pack for warm weather travel.

1. Sun Protection

Sunscreen is the most obvious and essential item on this list. It protects you from skin cancer, and photoaging, which appears as dark spots, sagging skin, and wrinkles. A perfect sun hat is an important tool for sun protecting the area of your skin most prone to skin cancer. It has to be wide-brimmed and made of sun impenetrable material. It’s also necessary to protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses that have UVA and UVB protection. You should also consider getting glasses with polarized lenses that reduce glare.

2. Packable Rain Gear

No matter where we’re headed, there’s always the possibility of rain on any given day. Taking self-contained, packable rain gear and a compact umbrella may be a perfect idea. You can always throw it in your tote when sightseeing. If you are bringing the kids along, you may also want to bring rain boots and toddler rain pants for them, because you know how much kids like to jump in puddles! Also, don’t forget to take a rain cover for your luggage as well.

3. Water Bottle

Though staying hydrated might be challenging while you’re traveling, there are ways to make it work. If you don’t have a reusable water bottle, you should definitely buy one to take on your trips. Many airports have water stations for refilling water bottles. You will be able to find them wherever you’re traveling to. You will save money on bottled water and reduce plastic waste. Be environmentally friendly and try out foldable, lightweight collapsible water bottles made out of silicone!  It’s also a good idea to take an eco-conscious, reusable cutlery set, that includes a spoon, a fork, and a knife.

4. Comfortable Shoes

The sunshine calls for sandals and flip-flops, the perfect footwear to let your feet breathe. Comfortable walking sandals are great for a day of exploring a city in a warm location and seeing all the top attractions. Many people put them on for their travel days too, as they’re easy to slip on and off in security and on the plane or train. If you need to cover your toes at any point, bring a pair of something light, like espadrilles or boat shoes as well.

5. Clothing You Can Layer

Some islands and beach areas have high elevations, so temperatures can drop significantly at night. Throw in a button-up cardigan or jacket made in a lightweight cotton blend to layer over your warm-weather clothing.

6. Black Dress or Button Down Shirt and Tie

A black dress, constructed with a jersey or a wrinkle-free material, is cool and comfortable for strolling through the streets, as a beach cover-up, and to wear to dinner at an upscale restaurant. You can dress it up with a scarf and comfortable sandals. Button-down shirts for men are a simple solution to dressing up or down. All it needs is a tie!

7. Toiletries

Pack your toiletries in a plastic resealable ziplock bag. This way you’ll protect your carry-on and clothes from leaks and spills. Don’t forget that you aren’t allowed to bring full-size toiletry bottles on a plane. Even though you are allowed to put them in your checked luggage it’s still better to buy-travel size toiletries or just fill reusable travel bottles.

8. Hand Sanitizer

Germs are everywhere! They can get onto hands and items we touch during daily activities. Clean hands with wet wipes or hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Don’t forget to wipe down your phone, doorknobs, toilet handles, and tv remotes when you’re traveling. It’s not fun to get sick when you’re on a vacation.

9. Perfect Suitcase or Backpack

When it comes to the eternal dilemma of carrying a trolley suitcase or a travel backpack, it all depends on your personal preferences and travel needs. No matter what you choose, it should be well-organized, especially if you’re traveling for a longer period of time or visiting multiple destinations. When packing your luggage, it’s better to roll your clothes. It is really more space effective, as it helps to reduce the size of your luggage at least a little. Don’t forget to take a packable water-resistant beach bag for heading to the beach, site seeing, or shopping.

10. Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are colored bags of different sizes that fit inside luggage and make the packing and unpacking process much more efficient. Separating items in your luggage with packing cubes or ziplock bags makes keeping your bath items, accessories, basic medicines, and clothes much easier. Your shoes can also be packed into a packing cube. However, a special shoe bag is a way better option for such a purpose since it is water, sand and dirt resistant.
