4 Green Flags to Look For in a Partner

When dating, we always talk about red flags to watch out for, but what about green flags? There are plenty of amazing qualities to seek out in a partner, and looking for those when dating can be helpful instead of going into it blindly.

Having a good idea of what you want in a relationship can help you be more selective and choose someone who’s the right fit for you. That’s why we’re offering a list of 4 green flags to look for in a partner.

Transparency

Transparency is a great quality to seek out when you’re dating. In a relationship with someone open and honest, you never have to worry about them hiding things from you. Instead, they place honesty and openness as core values, which can help build a healthy relationship as there’s trust from the very start of it.

Authenticity

You want to know exactly who someone is, but this can be tricky when it comes to dating. Many people try and put their best foot forward, and they’re afraid to show their true selves when dating someone new. Finding a partner who is authentically themselves is a major green flag. This means they’re confident and comfortable with who they are, which is important for establishing a secure relationship.

Consistent

A green flag that often gets overlooked is consistency with a partner. This could be because people may not realize just how important it is for a successful and fulfilling relationship until they don’t have it. When you’re dating someone consistent, there’s no confusion involved. You don’t have to worry about them saying one thing but then doing another (a common tactic used by toxic partners). This builds a sense of safety and security in the relationship which is essential for it to last.

Thoughtful

It should come as no surprise that thoughtfulness is a green flag to look for when dating. However, it can be hard to distinguish between someone being thoughtful and them trying to “woo” you to seal the deal on the relationship. How you can tell if someone is being genuinely thoughtful is to notice the intention behind what they do. Do they go out of their way to help someone when nobody’s looking? Do they send you a text “just because”?

Final Thoughts

There are plenty of green flags to look for when it comes to dating. Some questions are worth asking:

How do you feel about sharing finances?

And some questions might be important but they’re not very relevant to choosing a good partner:

Your toes look awful, is hammertoe surgery worth it.?

However, transparency, authenticity, consistency, and thoughtfulness are all wonderful and important qualities in a potential partner. Dating can be tricky, but when you know what you’re looking for it can make it a bit easier! Spend some time considering the green flags we mentioned, and also think of your green flags that you want in a partner.
