5 Things You Should Know About Product Packaging

So you’ve spent the last few months or maybe even years developing this product. After cutting through all the red tape and all the trials along the way, you’ve finally reached a point that you’re ready to package it and sell it to your target audience. Before you start placing your merchandise inside of plain cardboard boxes, it is imperative to understand that product packaging is critical to branding and marketing your products. There are several details that need to be addressed. Below are a few factors to consider to create the perfect packaging and custom boxes for your products.

  1. Get Organized

If you’re going to be packaging your products yourself you’ll want to make sure that you’re organized. Tools such as label rewinders can make it easy for you to store your product labels, while furniture such as shelving units or plastic containers can be great for storing your packaging supplies. The more organized you are, the easier it is for you to generate quality packaging and maintain a full stock of supplies.

  1. Check Out the Competition

In order to determine what type of packaging and labeling you want to incorporate, you’ll need to have an understanding of how the competition is packaging theirs. The thing is, you don’t want to end up selecting a package option that is too similar to the competition or you could blend in. Review the packing for several competitors to see what the customers like and how you can make yours stand out.

 

  1. Know Your Target Audience

Another element that is important to know prior to selecting the design of your package is your target audience. Essentially, you want to gear your marketing and branding efforts towards your target demographic to peak their interests. For instance, a business professional might be more inclined to select a package that is simplistic yet functional while a teenager might look for a package that is more vibrant, bold, and in your face. Aside from generalizing your target audience and making assumptions on what they might like, it’s a good idea to ask. Talk with some of your existing customers or social media followers to find out what type of packaging would interest them.

  1. Purchase Quality Materials

Packaging is not an area of marketing and branding that you want to skimp on. The type of product packaging you present to customers and/or retailers can ultimately show them that you care about your brand and the quality of your products are high. Cheap materials that quickly fall apart or don’t protect the merchandise as it should can give off the impression that you don’t value the products or brand.  Whether choosing flexible plastic packaging or any other alternative, quality is key.

 

  1. Invest in the Design

You have approximately three seconds to impress a consumer who’s interested in purchasing a product. While you may have the best product on the market, it won’t mean much if the consumer does not like what they see. You should work to ensure that your packaging is easy to read, engaging, exciting, and different from other types of packaging. Remember, your packaging can essentially say a lot about your brand and what you have to offer your customers.

       6. Product packaging is key

You may have thought that all you needed to attract the attention of your target audience was a catchy name and a good product. However, if you want to convince customers or retailers to purchase your merchandise you must think outside of the box in providing high-quality packaging and labeling. Your packaging should always be clear, easy to use, and convenient for your target audience for the best results.
