Are you fretting about not getting your full recommended 7 to 8 hours sleep a night? Whilst your sleep needs vary by age, we’re here to delve into whether it’s really the amount of hours you’re getting or is it the actual quality of your sleep that is the most important factor?

What makes us the experts? Well, here at Booths Furniture we’ve been a supplier of comfortable beds and countless sleep-filled nights to thousands of happy customers over our 50-year history; basically, we know what it takes for you to get a good night’s sleep!

As we previously mentioned, how much sleep you actually need depends on your age. You shouldn’t get hung up on how many actual hours a night you are getting; sleeping fewer hours, or waking up in the night, can often be cause for concern for some people; owing this to them feeling tired throughout the day. But is it actually the quality of the sleep that is causing this?

The National Sleep Foundation in the UK has a guide on the ‘recommended’ hours of sleep each age group should be getting each night, but as lifestyle factors impact on how different people react to different amounts of sleep, there isn’t a one size fits all when it comes to sleep.

We know that getting a good night’s sleep is important, and the emphasis is on ‘good’; each of us spends up to a third of our lives asleep, it is an essential part of human life. Our sleep cycle, or “circadian rhythm”, changes with age for example as shown above, a new born baby will need significantly more sleep than an elderly person, who is more likely to rise early with naps throughout the day.

What Will Give Me A Better Night’s Sleep?

There are many things that will contribute to you getting a better quality of sleep, and we are recommended many of them daily by health specialists looking to make people understand the importance of getting quality sleep throughout the night.

In an increasingly digital age, more and more people are finding it hard to switch off from their devices, but the key to getting a quality night’s sleep is finding time to unwind before you get into bed by setting up the right environment.

Did you know you should get a new bed and mattress every 8 years? Putting your trust in Booths Furniture to provide you with the comfort and support of a brand new mattress from Tempur or Sealy will significantly improve your night’s sleep as

Overall, we know it is the quality of the sleep you are getting which will ultimately make you more productive throughout the day and generally improve your health. All those times you wake up earlier than your alarm, celebrating the fact that you’ve got an extra hour in bed, you might feel the benefit of starting your day when you naturally wake up.
