Creative Ways To Fix Family Challenges

family therapy

They say friends are just just family by other parents.  To that I’d add that some family members are like the “friends” who you wish would just go away.  Yeah, for better or worse, short of divorce we’re stuck family and in-laws in spite of all their quirks, oddness, and downright weird behavior.  And that can cause some on-going family challenges.

If you’ve tried a growing laundry list of ways to resolve those family challenges, here are some you may have overlooked.

Team Building Courses

Whether it’s two or twenty people, anything more than one can be considered a team.  We’re social creatures, at work, at play, and in a family setting.  So learning to be a better member of the team is crucial.

Team building courses can be indoors, outdoors, or a combination of both.  The range of possible activities is quite broad, but the objective is always the same – learning how to relate to the other members of the team and recognizing both your need for and value to the team.   They’re even popular in a family reunion setting.

Group Counseling

You might have a television-induced notion that group counseling is often out of control, volatile, or even chaotic.  Reality is quite different.  Typically no more than ten participants, it provides a safe environment to explore beliefs, thoughts, and emotions, without fear of judgment or retaliation. For example, this is the perfect solution for a parent who wants to have an open discussion with their child after having to use Bail Bonds to get them out of jail following them being arrested for driving under the influence

The benefits of group counseling are many, and go far beyond providing a safe place to build healthy relationships.  For more detailed information on how this option might work for your situation, click here.

Ropes Courses

While a ropes course is sometimes a part of team building, a ropes course is typically outdoors and involves physical challenges that must be overcome.  Each section of the course requires the participants to work together to overcome a specific obstacle.  It’s common to experience one or more “failures” that are used as teaching opportunities.

Physical challenges can be what’s called “low” or “high.”  That describes whether it’s near ground level, or high on a structure or in a tree.  While safety is paramount, stretching the boundaries of one’s confidence and trust results in team and relationship breakthroughs that are often quite unexpected.

Family:  The Power of Together

The initial goal might be creating stronger, quality family relationships.  But putting in the effort to forge a better family unit results in so much more.  It’s one of the most rewarding, long-lasting transformations you’ll ever be part of.
