Whether you’re a native to an area or visiting for the first time, it’s easy to miss some of the most beautiful and inspiring sight-seeing opportunities.  If you’re a native, the same old routine keeps you from venturing out.  And for tourists, the natural draw is to the common tourist attractions.  But the back roads shouldn’t be overlooked.  Besides the thrill of driving these beautiful roads, it’s the best place to get in touch with the country’s authentic natural and cultural heritage.

Grab the keys to your car,  and get on the road to these inspiring back road drives in the Scotland, England and Wales districts of the United Kingdom.

Stirling to Inverness

Described by some as one of the most beautiful roads in the world, this drive will take about 3 hours, and you have options of the A9 or the A822.  But you’ll find so many views to admire along the way, it’s sure to take a bit longer.

Be sure to take in Stirling Castle, and be warned that there are speed cameras along the way.  Take a picnic lunch, or stop in one of the many options for delicious local fare.

Snake Pass

How about a road so popular that it has its own Twitter page?  For the very latest on this amazing road, snakepasswatch.    Touted as the “road that every driving enthusiast should drive,”  the drive to Snake Pass has superb views and scenery.  As a part of the local history for nearly 200 years, it’s even been memorialized in dance.

If you want to make it a weekend outing, you’ll want to consider the Snake Pass Inn,  in operation since 1821.  It’s a charming Hotel and Bed and Breakfast that is always pleasing, and they serve yummy home-cooked meals.

Abergwesyn Pass

We’ve saved the best for last.  Highly recommended by almost all driving enthusiasts is the Abergwesyn Pass Road.  Winding through conifer forests, shepherd valleys, quaint villages, and the impressive Devil’s Staircase, this road isn’t for the faint of heart.  But what adventure worth taking on ever was?

This 20+ mile stretch of road that goes from Llanwrtyd Wells to the village of Tregaron isn’t one to speed through.  Rather, plan on spending about three hours to thoroughly enjoy the trip, plus irresistible photo stops.

At the end of this day trip, you’ll have stories and pictures to share and that will bring back vivid and pleasant memories for many years to come.

Great Trips on The Back Roads Deserve Great Rides

This trip through the magnificent back roads of the United Kingdom has been sponsored by TFS Car Leasing, who invites you to imagine taking any, or all, of those inspiring trips in one of their great selection of sporty and luxury vehicles.  The best roads, the best cars!
