Every Woman Should Wear Lipstick

The best advice I can give you ladies right now for success and confidence (not just in the workplace, but life in general) is to buy a flattering and luxury lipstick. AND WEAR IT.

You won’t believe the power boost it gives you. Now I know, I know, lipstick has the negative connotation associated with our tight-lipped grandmothers, crumpled up red-stained tissues and the horrifying possibility of smearing it all over your teeth. But the confidence boost that comes along with the very act of applying lipstick is unbelievable!  Not only is it effortlessly sexy, but wearing lipstick says, “Hi everyone, here I am and I care enough about my appearance and my attitude that I have dared to put color on my lips!” And no, you don’t need to be some pro-stylist from a cosmetology school to put this stuff on your lips!

This weekend I bought my first lipstick, wore it out at night, felt fantastic and transitioned it to work today. Now, I admit, I was self-conscious about walking into the office, being the youngest and one of the newest employees, with my new shade of defined lip, but I did it. And the easy act of doing something I was afraid of gave me a fearless attitude for the rest of the day.

Starting a new job or a new school is difficult. You’re walking into a new hierarchy and you have to start at the bottom. It’s easy and even comfortable to blend into people around you and forget your own ferocious drive and ambition that got you where you are in the first place. Obviously it is important to assimilate into your company, take on their rules and expectations but I also want to leave my own mark and make myself irreplaceable. To do that, speak up and respectfully offer creative ideas and suggestions.

For the courage to find the spark that is most definitely inside, make it a lipstick occasion.
