How to Choose the Right Flowers for Your Wedding

When making your wedding preparations, one of the most exciting things that you will work on is your wedding flowers. While planning floral arrangements can be a fun and creative exercise, it can also be stressful. There are just too many flowers and color themes that you have to choose from, and what’s supposed to be a joyous experience can quickly become overwhelming. Florists from Juniper Flowers recommend the following tips when choosing flowers for your wedding:

Work With a Budget

One of the questions most couples have is how much money they should set aside for flowers. Your wedding flowers should take up about 8% of your entire wedding budget. The numbers can vary depending on your wedding venue and the type of flowers you have in mind, which is why it’s best to work with a florist once you have your wedding venue and reception finalized. This way, you can have a rough idea of how much you should be spending on flowers.

Think of the Venue

Ideally, you should work on your flowers once you have finalized your venue in order to match your arrangements to the location. If you plan to have an intimate wedding venue, you have to make sure that the number of arrangements you order will not overwhelm the space. In addition, you also have to know whether the venue has any restrictions regarding decorations. Don’t forget to ask about this and discuss it with your florist.

Prepare a Board

Before meeting with a florist, it would be best if you have an inspiration board that you can present to them. Pick out several themes, and present a fabric swatch or pictures of your wedding gown. While you may want to replicate the boards, it’s crucial to allow your florist to have their creative take on what you presented. You have to remember that florists are artists who have their own vision and creativity to make these boards come to life. You’d be surprised at how they can come up with something more personalized and unique to you.

Follow a Color Scheme

All flowers are beautiful, which is why it can be tempting to mix, match and experiment with different color themes. However, you have to remember that they have to be cohesive with everything else. While you can be flexible with the colors, it would be best to have one focal color and choose others that will complement them. One idea is to have your florist compose a flower arrangement, take a snapshot, and use that to ascertain whether or not the colors blend well together.

Popular Flowers vs. Exotic Blooms

One dilemma for couples when they’re deciding on flowers is whether they should choose popular ones, or opt for an exotic look. When you choose the former, you risk being a little less unique, but you’ll usually get better deals because they can be sourced easily. When you choose the latter, you can benefit from a unique style, but you might end up paying more to acquire them. Choose depending on your goals and budget, and ask input from your florist.

Hopefully, these tips will help you narrow down your choices for your wedding flowers.
