New York Fashion Week 2013: Cheat Sheet for Fall 2013 Office Wear

All-Star Weekend, the Super Bowl, award season and Beyoncé have taken over our February television schedule, however, last week fashionable New Yorks gathered and braved the chilling weather to preview the 2013 Fall and Winter wear looks.  While the masses are preparing their wardrobe for Spring and Summer, a trend-setter must stay three to four seasons ahead.

Last week’s fashion week made it apparent that we are amongst birds and scarabs when Tory Burch debuted scarabs and Proenza Schouler released its Hitchcock-esque collection. More importantly than the annoying pest fashions, the designers take us back to the 50s and 80s this fall. I am very excited for Fall/Winter 2013 because it personifies a women’s silhouette and brings back lady-like looks.

Fall/ Winter 2013 is all about the little details. Designers incorporated classic garments such as turtlenecks, skinny belts, oversized clutches and leather gloves. If you are looking for trends to incorporate into your office wear here is a cheat sheet.

Silhouettes

My personal favorite is a nice A-Line skirt. I have an A-Line skirt from Forever 21 that is one of my wardrobe staples. For professional meetings, I play up the skirt with a blazer. Other days I pair it with a t-shirt or sweatshirt and moto-boots for an effortless look.

  • Lady-Like Fitted
  • Round Shoulders

Prints & Patterns

Leather-Accents have actually become a classic. Every season we see this “trend” on the runway because it can be worn many different ways. Leather side panels on a nice skirt is very slimming, while a full leather skirt is slimming and adds an edge to any look.

Colors

To be safe, the best colors to use for the office are classic colors and neutrals such as black, ivory and charcoal. Cinnamon, crimson, cobalt and emerald should be used as accents.
