The results of a recent survey indicated that 77% of respondents want to learn how to live sustainable lifestyles, reflecting a serious concern for the planet and the impact of humanity’s actions on its wellbeing. On top of protecting the environment, living an eco-friendly lifestyle has also several benefits. You save money by using and wasting fewer resources, achieve a better quality of life, improve your health, and enhance your welfare. If you’re planning to make the switch, here are some steps you can take that will help make the transition smoother and easier.

Invest In Ecologically Sound Technologies

From switching off appliances and lights that are not in use to upgrading your gadgets to energy-efficient ones, putting your money in eco-friendly technologies will help reduce your carbon footprint. Consider switching to renewables, such as by changing your energy supplier to a provider that’s 100% renewable. It is great for both the environment and your home, making it more sustainable.

If you have the financial means, upgrade to solar energy systems to reduce your electricity bills and help the planet. However, be mindful of your region and how much sunlight your home is exposed to. For example, in Denver solar panel may be more effective than those used in Alaska, simply because of the differing amounts of sunlight. Colorado’s capital is one of the sunniest in America, averaging 300 days of sunshine per year. In contrast, Juneau gets only 86 sunny days in a year. Therefore, it is important to consider several things when going solar, including siting, tax credits, condition, size, the slope of your roof, and alternative sources of energy.

Other Ways To Live Green

You don’t have to invest the big bucks to live a sustainable lifestyle because there are several ways you can go green without spending a lot of money, whether it’s shopping for organic groceries or using a hybrid car. Start your backyard garden, buy at a farmer’s market, ditch the car in favor of a bicycle or public transportation, and shop at thrift stores for clothing and home goods.

Minimize heating and cooling your home to save money, or operate your appliances on energy-efficient settings. Before throwing things out or bringing them to your local recycling center, check if you can still reuse items without adding to the growing landfill. Tap into your creative talents, and bring life to an old skirt, tablecloth, or empty bottles and jars.

Favoring a sustainable lifestyle can sometimes be difficult. On the bright side, every little step that you take to modify your lifestyle by reducing waste and going green also benefits the environment
