When the Travel Bug Hits: 6 Ways to Finance Your Travels

Whether it’s catching stunning sunsets around the world, or just heading out to the beach house or a mountain cabin for the week when the travel bug hits, it’s hard not to scratch that itch. The only problem is when that itch doesn’t come with the money to finance those travel plans, especially if you decide that you want to become a full-time traveler. Luckily, there are ways for you to finance your travel bug below.

Find Cheaper Alternatives

No matter where you live or what your hobbies are, you can always pinch some pennies for that travel fund you have been ignoring for the last several weeks, months, or maybe years? Maybe you live in Manahattan and cant’ escape high rent, try cutting down your streaming bills for a few months. Maybe you live in Washington D.C and start opting for happy hour instead of fine dining? Or perhaps you live out in the countryside and decide to redo your car insurance policy so you can free up another $100 a month for your savings. The point is, anyone can find ways to save little by little so once you make the habit, your travel fund will be brimming with funds before the pandemic is over!

Work Online

While you might want to be able to enjoy your fun in the sun work-free, sometimes that’s just not realistic. There are thousands of people who make their living online, so why can’t you? The great thing about it is that it can be done from anywhere in the world. From writing online to creating books and from digital marketing to almost anything else out there, you can easily make a living working online during your travels.

Put Away a Little a Week

Since you never know when the travel bug is going to bite, it stands to reason that you would want to sock a little money out of your checks every week to cover it. If you put a little away every week, you’ll have a tidy sum saved up when you decide to head out on the road once again. Even if it’s only $50 a week, it adds up quickly, and before you know it, you’ll be soaking up the sun in your favorite location.

Rent Out Your Home While You’re Away

For some travelers, this could be a viable option if you don’t mind having another family in your home while you’re off seeing the world yourself. This is a great way to finance your own travels. You rent your house out to traveling families and use the money to finance your own vacation. Who knows, maybe there’s a family that would rent you their home as well, so that you can save money on food, such as eating out, and other things along the way as well.

Let Your Company Pay

According to what company you work for, it may be possible to get them to pay for your travel expenses. Not only do you get to travel, but you also get a paycheck for doing it as well. How’s that for having a great job? You can also take your paid vacation days and finance your vacation that way.

Volunteer Abroad

There are many countries that will let you volunteer, which will pay for your travels, your accommodations, and more. If you love helping people, then volunteering is the perfect opportunity for you. You get to help someone, see the world and experience different cultures at the same time. Volunteering is a win-win for someone who loves to travel, can’t quite afford to foot the bill, and seeks to help those less fortunate than they are.

These are just a few tips for financing your travels when the travel bug hits you and your family. Remember, saving up to travel is a great idea, but there are other ways it can be done as well. You just have to know how to find them.
